Meet Dj Sherry Shay, The Nigerian-American Sexy Female Deejay

When I see outstanding people in a crowd, I sure know how to spot them. The lady I brought here today is one of the few female djs who have put in so much effort to do extremely well in a male dominated industry. The Dallas Texas based female DJ is a golden fish that has no hiding place in this big city of ours, and her skills and perseverance has indeed open doors of opportunities for her. Okay, before I go on and on, please meet the beautiful, sexy Dj Sherry Shay….  (Read interview below)

Could you please tell us your name and nickname?
My name is Sharon Oyedeji and I have several nicknames  My family calls me Banky and my friends/supporters call me DJ SherryShay.
Could you please tell us a bit about your background?
I was born in Lagos, Nigeria. I moved to London when I was 10 years old and I moved to Dallas, Texas at the age of 12. I have my associates degree in Business administration and marketing and I also work full time in the medical field.

At what point did you decide to be a dj?

I have always loved music since I was a baby. I absolutely love to dance. I used to win the best dancer award at birthday parties when I was younger. I love entertaining people by just acting silly and goofing around. I actually did a song a few years ago with bhamp called Hit the Dougie. Lol. I really prayed for God to show me what I am supposed to do with my life because I just didn’t feel that I was going down the right path. I woke up the next day and I said out loud that I will become a DJ. The moment that I decided to become a DJ was the best day of my life. Everything was put into motion and I have never regretted my decision. I enjoy every minute of it.
How do you feel going into a male dominated industry?
Going into this male dominated industry was very difficult at first. I did reach out to the other djs to let them know that I would be coming for their spots. Lol. Majority of them welcomed me with open arms because there are very few women djing especially a Nigerian one at that. I am all about female empowerment.
Did you ever feel intimidated at any point in time?
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t intimidated when I first started. I still get intimidated at times but I just believe that God put me here for a reason. He put me in this position for a reason and he has my back. Everybody has their own lane. We can still all be successful doing the same things. DJ SherryShay has her own lane. She marches to the beat of her own drums and she is here to stay.
So far, how has been the reception?
The reception has been great so far. I was one of the DJs at the Nigerian Reunion 2014 in Atlanta. That was the first time djing at an awards ceremony honoring an A list celebrity. I also DJ every Tuesdays at Shark bar. I have done weddings, birthday parties, private events etc. I am always on the go. I travel a lot. A lot of the gigs I get comes from referrals
Where can we catch you setting the dance floor on fire (lol) in Texas?
You can catch me at a Shark bar on Tuesdays setting the dance floor on fire. Lol. You will even catch me dancing as well on the dance floor. Lolll on weekends I do private gigs and events.
