“My Dad Does Not Know I’m An Actress” – Jumoke Aderounmu

Hey folks, how are you all doing? As you all know, I love showcasing raw and exceptional talent on this platform on regular basis.

The talent we are showcasing today is embodied in a young lady who is not only beautiful but she is also intelligent, brilliant, educated, ambitious…. let me take a pause as I introduce Nollywood upcoming actress and OAP to you. Enjoy!

Who is Jumoke Aderounmu?
Jumoke is a God fearing young Lady determined to be successful while living her dreams.
Could you please tell us a bit about your background?
I grew up in a family of 7(parent inclusive) under the most strict environment, my mum was very strict with us that each time she went out, she would lock my siblings and I up in the house and went with the key so we won’t relate with the kids in the estate. (it was that bad) so it was from school, back home for me. It made the bond between my siblings and I very tight. My dad was the GM marketing at PZ industries at the time, so he only came home once in a while.
Childhood and growing up was fun for me cos we played every game and we still root for each other till now.
At what point did you decide to start acting on screen and what prompted your decision?
I started acting in 2007/2008, it just happened like a joke cos I didn’t plan it, before then I had always been complemented by people around me that I would make a good actor and the encouragement and support from some of my lecturers back then in school made me try it when I got the opportunity. The first time experience made me want to do more and so far, so good.
I saw you in Alakada, and you did a wonderful job. Could you share your experience in the movie with us?
ALAKAD2 was a bit challenging cos it was not all rosy filming but I had total fun being on set interpreting the role despite being under a bit of pressure but I feel so humbled with the grace of God for the viewer’s acceptance ‎and the positive response I got from people. I am using this opportunity to say a big Thank you to everyone that saw the movie and reached out to me, God bless you all.

Prior to Alakada, could you name the other movies you have featured in?
Before staring in ALAKAD2, I have stared in a few movies and featured in a couple as well, ASISE EDA, THE UN WRITTEN, AWA OKUNRIN, AWA OBINRIN, AMINWO, ARUGBA, EGBE OKUNKUN, ARIWO OLA (We featured in the movie together *winks)).. those are the ones I can remember for now.
Do we expect your own movie soon?
I am not promising you guys will see my self produced movie asap but who knows, we never can tell.
Aside acting, I know you have a tv show on DoboxTv, could you tell us a bit about that?
The Lounge is a light entertainment talk show about African talents, it’s a fun show on dobox.tv. That’s my project for now, my self produced content and it will launch and syndicate on tv channels soon by God’s grace, it’s in the works.
Your role model(s) in the movie industry or outside?
The industry is a very large place with different amazing people and I definitely have a few mentors like Aunty Joke Silva, TK (Tunde Kelani), Mo Abudu, Mr Collins Enebeli. These are people I learn from and look up to in the industry.
Being a graduate, how did your folks react when you told them you wanted to be an actress?
I started acting when my mum was on her sick bed and for a while I couldn’t tell her I started acting cos I didn’t have the gut to, she got to know from my elder sister and she asked me if that was what I really wanted to do and I said yes, then she promised we would strategize  and make plans as soon as she was well but then she passed on but made me promise her at the last minute she would pass on that I would remain Adejumoke Aderounmu she had and brought up. So help me God. My dad does not know till now that I act movies, I begged everyone around him not to tell him cos I can’t handle the outcome should he know. So I’m still hiding it from my dad.

What is your selling point?
My selling Point is my uniqueness and the fact that I am un apologetically ME all the time, I always do me and don’t care what people think of me cos at the end of the day, your issues with me is absolutely not my business but yours, I am just a baby girl with God’s grace and I am sharing my talent with the world to the glory of God’s name.
Any word(s) of encouragement for your fans at home?

“Words of Encouragement for fans” is that I am grateful for the acceptance and I am here to stay. We can’t stop praying and we won’t stop praying for God’s mercy to keep us going in strength in Jesus name. I love you all and I hope to meet you all someday. God bless us all.
