Good morning world (yes it’s 2:00 am in Texas), how are you all doing. The artiste I brought today was first interviewed on my radio show (TGIF on www.rootsradiolove.com) few weeks ago, and I must confess, his songs literally got me rollin’ *in his voice* and I told myself that I have to interview him one more time (on my blog), so that people can see that we have so many talents from Naija here in the States. Hope y’all will enjoy his songs as much as I do. Below is my chit chat with the next Afro-fusion king, Adeoniye. Enjoy…
Can you please tell us your fullname and what you do?
My name is Gbenga Adeoniye Fasola better known as Adeoniye, I am a musician.
Is there a particular reason why you chose to be a musician and at what point in time did you decide to start singing?
I didn’t choose to be a musician. Making music was just a hobby that got quite serious. I’ve always been singing…. secretively lol.
Where exactly are you from, and what is your educational background?
I’m originally from Lagos, Nigeria. Relocated to the US in 1999 to further my studies. I’m now a university graduate. I still aspire to soar even higher in my academic pursuit.
I have heard two of your songs, Rollin’ and Bang Bang, could you please tell us what inspired you to do those songs?
My song Rollin’ was actually a dream come true. I actually woke up in the middle of the night humming the main melody of the chorus, the lyrics later walked themselves in I guess. Got with the right people to achieve the sound I wanted (Giggz at Xtrim Records in Houston), and the rest is still history in the making.
My song Bang Bang was a creative story I wrote of two lovers while I was in Nigeria for a visit around early 2013.
Does any of your songs reflect your personal experience?
Some of my songs are direct reflection of whatever I’m going through in my life, while others are pure creative craftsmanship. You have to get the album and decide which ones apply to me, and which ones apply to you.
What made you choose your music genre..Afro- fusion?
My sound is a product of my vast library of sounds I listen to incorporated with my own interpretation of these sounds. Plus my own flare. As much as I try to reinvent the wheel, I usually result to making it more proficient. I’m still work in progress, and can only get better with time; so stay tuned.
Considering the fact that you live abroad and you do the Afro-fusion, what is your fan base like? And do you feel intimidated at any point in time?
My fan base is quite vast. The ideas to my songs speak their own language, those who are able to relate with the language find themselves enjoying my songs. And a huge thank you to all those people who actually “get it”.
Aside Rollin’ and Bang Bang, do you have any other single or singles you want us to check out?
Yes definitely, I want you to check out my songs Louder, Dr. Who, and Yes Babe ft. Clay.
Where can people listen to your songs?
To listen to my songs please visit my website www.adeoniye.com Also check me out on www.soundcloud.com/perfectpeoplemusic You can also find me on youtube.com search “Adeoniye”
When should we expect your album?
My first album is due out before the end of this year 2014, by God’s grace, amen.
Do you do your beats yourself or you have a music producer?
I’m currently working with several producers and I always take part in the production processes.
Do you have any mentor?
Currently, No. As I grow and learn more, my mentors change.
Do you have any favorite musician?
I don’t think I have a favorite musician o. lol Apart from all the already famous musicians, someone that has really impacted my life is Ronke Adesokan. She’s a gospel singer here in Houston. I remember when I was younger, she’d go shower and sing for several hours. These days, I find myself doing the same. In the shower, melodies meet lyrics, and new songs are born.
