Buhari Congratulates Burna Boy and Wizkid Over Grammy Awards

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent congratulatory messages to the first set of Afrobeats artistes to win the highly coveted Grammy awards.

Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy’s Twice As Tall album won the best album category after edging out Antibalas (FU Chronicles), Bebel Gilberto (Agora), Anoushka Shankar (Love Letters), and Tinariwen (Amadjar).

According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the victory was a thing of joy to Nigerians both home and abroad.

Congratulations to Burna Boy on being conferred the 2021 Grammy, the world’s most prestigious musical awards. He has made notable contributions in the field of music which have brought glory to Nigerians at home and abroad. We are proud of his path-breaking achievements,” the statement read.

Buhari also congratulated Wizkid who was crowned as the winner of the Best Music Video for his efforts in Brown Skin Girl, a song by Beyonce, Blue Ivy and St Jhn, beating Future and Drake (Life Is Good), Harry Styles, (Adore You), Anderson Paak (Lockdown), and Woodkid (Goliath).

Shehu added that the President also “acknowledged the efforts of forerunners like King Sunny Ade and Femi Kuti whose creative exertions earned them Grammy nominations, paved the way and brought Nigerian music to global reckoning.

The President believes that the record-breaking musical achievements are a recognition of the Nigerian creative talents and the awards will open doors to other aspiring citizens.”
