Read excerpt from the interview below….
How do you prepare for a show?
I have general rehearsals with my band members on a weekly basis but whenever I have a show, I do a special rehearsal for it because if i’m playing at a wedding, you don’t expect me to sing a song meant for naming ceremony so my preparation depends on the show I have.
What do you do a day before a show?
I sleep and sleep and sleep because I use so much energy on stage and music is not a lazy man’s job so I sleep to gain enough strenght for the show.
What do you do on the day of the show?
As a mother I wake up early to attend to my kids, do some household chores and take water to cleanse my system. I also try to do some exercise and rest. I make sure I rest my voice so as to gain enough energy and make sure that I don’t lose my voice when I hit the stage.
You use so much energy on stage. What is the secret?
Nothing special, I take water even when I am on stage but on the morning of the show I take tea and not coffee; it could either be Lipton or Top Tea.
Do you eat any special food on the day of the show and how many minutes or hours do you eat before a show?
I eat four hours before going on stage and my food is guess what, hot eba (Gari) with any soup.
