The doctor who performed throat procedure on Joan Rivers‘ at a clinic in Manhattan has been fired.
According to several reports,
Dr. Lawrence Cohen, the gastroenterologist who performed Joan Rivers’ endoscopy that ended in the comedian’s death, has been fired.
The former medical director of Yorkville Endoscopy was asked to step down by the board, and has been on administrative leave since the day of Rivers’ procedure.
While the board does not place the onus for Rivers’ passing on Dr. Cohen, its actions are allegedly prompted by the doctor’s approval of an unauthorized procedure.
Rumors have been swirling that the 81-year-old’s death was caused by an unplanned biopsy performed by her ear, nose and throat doctor.
The ENT doctor reportedly traveled with Rivers to the clinic, and upon another doctor’s discovery of “something” on the comedian’s vocal cords, performed a biopsy that caused Rivers’ vocal cords to seize up.
