Hey peeps how are y’all doing, hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. Although it’s been a long week but I have to get it together and make the best out of the stressful days.
Okay, back to the reason why I’m writing this piece…*adjusts my seat* Some weeks ago I did an interview for an upcoming musician on my radio talk show, and I haven’t stopped playing one of his songs titled ‘Alujo’ (Dancehall) since then.
Here is my chit chat with the dancehall crooner. Enjoy…
Could you please tell us your name and what you do?
My name is Wolex Kelly. I’m an afro hip pop and dancehall artiste.
What prompted your style of music, and what inspired you to choose that kind of music?
I do Inspirational afro hip pop and dancehall. Doing inspirational songs is the best way I can express my mind and interact with the world.
Could you please tell us your educational background?
I studied banking and finance at the University of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. I have certificate in Acting from PEFTI film institute in Lagos. And I studied TV and Radio presentation in a private institute in Ibadan, Oyo state.
At what point did you decide to start singing and for how long have you been singing?
Hmmm, I started singing professionally in 2007. I fell in love with music when I was a kid, and I started with doing soundtrack for home videos. I did my first demo in 2009, and in 2011 I decided to go into music fully and I recorded my first Single titled ‘Ojasope’ and since then baba God has been faithful to me.
Have you released any album yet?
I don’t have any album yet, but I have singles playing on air like Ojasope (Victory at last), Alujo (dancehall), and my latest single titled Fowosaye (money rules), it’s dedicated to late Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Orlando Owoh. I’m planing to drop a video soon.
So far, how many singles have you released and where can people find your songs on the internet?
I have three singles out there already. They can search Wolex Kelly on www.iroking.com and they will find all my songs there. Iroking is my official internet promo company.
Have you done any collabo with any popular musician yet?
Not yet, but I’m talking to some artiste already and we will push something out soon.
Who and who do you intend to do collaboration with in future?
I will like to do collabo with 2baba, Sound Sultan, Don Jazzy, M.I, R.Kelly, Akon and many more.
When should we expect an album from you?
My album will be out early next year by God’s grace.
I remember listening to your songs ‘Alujo’ and ‘Fowosaye’, what inspired or prompted you to do the songs?
Hmmm,.. Let me say God made it possible. Because most people like dancehll song, that was why I did ‘Alujo’ to make the world dance to my unique style of music. About ‘Fowosaye’, the general sickness in the world now is money, everybody wants and needs money. The world economy inspired me to do Fowosaye.
Do you normally do your beat yourself or you have a music producer?
No I don’t do beat, but I have music producers that I work with.
Where do you see your music in the next 5years?
Mehn…I see my music leading all over the world.
What should your fans expect from you?
They should be expecting more good songs, and video. I will bring home MTV and Grammy awards by God’s grace.
