Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has announced he has resumed public engagements.
This is coming days after he had announced he will be taking a short medical break.
Obi had announced the brief pause in a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
He opened up that he fell ill while attending a tourism event in Enugu on Friday.
Acting on his doctor’s advice, he suspended all engagements within and outside Nigeria for the weekend.
Upon resuming on Monday, Obi began by honoring a promise to visit an SME business he had encountered during his activities. In his own words:
“Let me begin by thanking everyone who wished me well during my short time away from engagements on the doctor’s advice. I resumed my engagements yesterday, and I started by visiting an SME business owned by someone I met during my activities, and I was truly delighted to listen to the owner.”
Obi visited Maison de Helen (MDH), a Nigerian luxury fashion brand founded in 1990 by designer Helen Unuane, who learned the craft from her mother and has now passed it on to her daughter, Elsie Unuane.
He described the SME as “more than a textile house; it is living proof of how Nigerian creativity, heritage, and enterprise can resonate on the global stage.”
Highlighting the significance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in economic growth, Obi noted that MDH directly and indirectly employs over 50 young Nigerians.
He emphasized that with adequate investment and government support, such businesses could expand further and generate even greater employment opportunities, contributing significantly to the country’s economy.
